Are you frustrated at your inability to burn fat? Now there is a much better way! Have you heard about the new best type of exercise to lose belly fat and weight? You only need to exercise for seven minutes a day, three days a week-- and you will get into the best shape of your life! Really!

Most people are doing the wrong kind of exercise for weight loss, or they are doing it the hard way! You shouldn't need to work an hour or more on cardio equipment, like elliptical machines or stationary bicycles, or even walking miles every day to lose weight and stay fit. You also shouldn't have to spend hours a day in the gym doing resistance training or weight lifting. Even most weight lifters have been working too hard on their training, and reaping less benefits.

I don't know about you, but I don't have time in my hectic schedule for hours of workout time! And I find it really hard to get motivated to do that much work as well! Fortunately, I found out that I don't need to train that hard anymore-- and you don't either!

Aerobics is a low-intensity, long-duration exercise. You do get some small benefits from low intensity aerobics, but the Harvard study clearly shows that this kind of exercise doesn't cut your risk of heart disease and death. When you exercise for long periods at a low to medium intensity, you are actually training your heart and lungs to get smaller!

Aerobics and dieting also aren't very helpful for losing weight and fat. When you cut calories and train for long periods of time, your body goes into a survival mode to help keep it from crashing. Your body is starving for energy, and it's trying to save you by holding on to the stored fat and adapting your metabolism to the new situation. Unfortunately this means you have little energy, cravings for energy foods like sugar and fat, and little or no real permanent weight loss.

So, what can you do to get the body to build muscle and burn fat?

The key to kicking your metabolism into gear for serious and permanent weight loss is doing very short but very intense exercise workout routines. A recent Harvard study has also shown that those who do short-duration, high-intensity workouts, reduce their risk of heart disease by 100 percent more than those who practice aerobic exercise.

High-intensity exercise can benefit anyone, no matter what their condition or age is. It is also the best for conditioning for athletes. In almost any sport there are short bursts of intense exercise, which is usually followed by a moderate level of activity, so athletes do better with short term high intensity training as well.

The benefits of incorporating short duration high intensity exercise workouts into your life are numerous, including losing fat, gaining muscle, improving your strength and agility, firming up your skin, toning up your body shape, having more energy, getting healthier, slowing down aging and improving your chances for living longer, activating your immune system, and increasing your stamina.

Remember also to add a few stretching exercises to your exercise routine. These help help improve circulation and help make your joints more flexible and elastic. Stretching also helps prepare the body for daily activity.

A good short duration high intensity exercise program should take you no longer than 7 minutes a day-- three days a week! For more detailed information on how high intensity exercise works, to get step by step instructions, and to find a fitness program customized for you, no matter how in shape or out of shape you are, go to http://7min.enzyme-health.com

When attempting to lose weight, be sure you look at your diet, as well as your exercise program. It is almost impossible to lose weight and get healthier with exercise alone. To get a FREE Diet Plan click here.

Of course, check with your doctor or naturopathic physician before starting any weight loss program, to be sure you are healthy enough for dieting and exercise.

FREE Diet Plan!

Here at Enzyme Health we are offering a FREE Weight Loss Diet Plan!

Get healthy and lose weight for good with the FREE "Enzyme Health Diet Plan-- A Step-by-Step Guide to a Healthy Lifestyle."

The Enzyme Health Free Diet Plan can be used by anyone, but it is especially good for those who have problems losing weight and sticking with diets. It Might Not Be Your Fault

Are you frustrated with your weight problem and don't know what to do about it? Do you find that you lose weight at first, only to gain it all back later, and maybe more when you stop dieting, or when you find yourself bingeing? Are you fed up with weight loss programs that don't work?

There is a good reason for that. You don't lack willpower. You are not doing anything wrong. It is just that dieting doesn't work!

Facts About Dieting

Dieting rarely works. 95% of all dieters who lose weight regain their lost weight and more within 1 to 5 years.

Dieting can lead to eating disorders. The obsession to be thin can lead to anorexia, bulimia, bingeing and compulsive exercising.

Dieting impacts your mental health and restricts your brainpower, leaving you mentally unfocused.

Dieting robs you of energy and slows your metabolism down.

Numerous studies link chronic dieting with feelings of depression, low self-esteem and increased stress.

Dieting increases compulsive eating.

You are fatter after a diet than before!

Why Dieting Doesn't Work

Quick fix diets usually never give long lasting results. The reason is most of the weight loss is due to loss of water. When you restrict calories, your body interprets it as impending starvation. When the body is under stress of starvation, it hoards the fat and burns the muscles first. The weight lost comes from water and the break down of muscles -- the places we don't want to lose it from.

So, the last thing you want to do is drastically cut calories. When you do, the body will start breaking down muscle protein to produce energy for vital body functions. The body will use muscle protein as fuel, before it starts burning fat, so you end up losing more muscle mass than fat during dieting. The body then uses large amounts of water to flush the broken down muscle tissue out. Thus you lose weight fast. No matter how much you drink, you can't prevent this loss of water. The only way to get control of your water balance is to stop starving yourself.

When dieting, the body starts saving energy by turning some functions off and running others at a slower pace. Fat is designed to provide the body with energy and protect it from starvation. If you go below 1000 calories a day, your body will slow your metabolism down to compensate. That is why weight loss slows down dramatically after a few days on a crash diet. And a slow metabolism is exactly the opposite of what you want to lose weight.

Another reason that diets don't work is bingeing. Bingeing doesn't happen because of a lack of willpower. It is a direct result of dieting. As your body senses a restriction in calories, it goes on the alert for an impending threat to survival. As a result, it tells you to eat, which results in your bingeing on calorie and fat filled foods. The more successful you are at starving yourself, the more the body will increase it's efforts to eat more foods. Eventually the body wins because survival is our strongest instinct. Bingeing is also a result of depriving yourself of something, which psychologically makes you obsessed with what you can't have.

After the Diet

After the quick weight loss diet you go back to your normal eating pattern, and what happens? The body that has shut off functions in order to conserve energy is now, suddenly, fed. The cells in your body have an immediate response to the sudden abundance of food, and that is to keep on saving energy, storing up for the next famine. As your body saves energy, it also begins storing all the extra energy - as fat. So, you end up having lost fat burning lean muscle tissue and added more fat! That wasn't your goal when you started your diet.

In addition to building fat again, the body has no ketone-bodies to get rid of. Consequently, less water is secreted and your water balance is restored. As you replenish your emptied water stores you rapidly gain back the weight you lost. So, by building fat, and replenishing water, you will gain weight quickly the first few days after a diet.

And each time you diet, you are teaching your body how to deal with starvation by hoarding fat, so each round of dieting increases your overall body fat!

Freedom from Dieting

So, how can you lose weight if dieting and restricting calories don't work? There is no quick fix answer. Any healthy weight loss needs to come gradually. The goal is to give up dieting forever and get back in balance. Stop trying to lose weight. No more counting calories. Instead make a commitment to get healthier.

When you get off the diet roller coaster, you will feel better, become healthier and lose the weight for good. When the body is well fed with healthy foods, it will shed the extra fat. It doesn't have to store it anymore. And when you give the body the nutrients it needs to be healthy, you stop having all the cravings for less healthy foods.

Enjoy the freedom from counting calories. You will find yourself moving slowly and safely to your perfect body weight, and you will feel better than you ever have before, lean and full of vitality, energy and health. This means developing some new healthy eating habits, as well as other health habits such as exercise.

Try to avoid extremes, such as eating a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. There are many complications associated with unbalanced low carbohydrate diet regimens. At the other end of the spectrum, some diets are saying avoid protein and fats, but eat as much carbohydrates as you want. Too much of the wrong kind of carbohydrates, especially refined sugar and white refined flour will turn to fat in the body also. Most commercial breads, breakfast cereals, and prepared foods are loaded with empty, fast-release carbohydrates, causing levels of blood-sugar to rise, leading to obesity and hypoglycemia.

All of the experts agree that unprocessed complex carbohydrates such as fruit and vegetables, whole grains, potatoes, and legumes are far superior to other forms of refined carbohydrates and should play a significant role in people's eating habits. According to the American Heart Association, a healthy diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables along with regular physical activity can help most people manage and maintain weight loss for both cardiovascular health and appearance.

Losing weight and becoming healthier requires a lifestyle change, not a six week diet "quick fix". The first step is to eat a balanced diet, filled with plenty of healthy foods, such as whole grains, fresh organic raw, fruits and vegetables, healthy fats and organic meats.

• • • • •

Thousands of people are losing weight and getting healthier adding coconut oil to their diets. I am happy to see this change for the better! I hope more grocery store products continue this trend.

Undoubtedly, there will be ignorant people who will cry out that palm oil is an unhealthy saturated fat. Like coconut oil, palm oil has been mislabeled as unhealthy for far too long, when it is actually is a very healthy saturated fat. Both oils have been staples in the diets of tropical people for thousands of years, and have helped people stay lean and healthy for centuries.

Like coconut oil, palm oil is great for baking and frying, and is very stable and solid at room temperature, so it does not require hydrogenation and contains no trans fatty acids. (Trans fat is the bad stuff that you want to avoid like the plague!) According to authors and researchers Sally Fallon and Mary G. Enig, PhD, of the Weston A. Price Foundation, "palm oil is a stable, healthy, natural fat composed of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids." (http://www.westonaprice.org)

Palm oil is the second most used dietary oil in the world, behind soy oil, and much healthier for you than soy oil. It comes from a different palm tree than coconuts-- a palm tree in Africa that produces small fruits that contain the palm oil. Palm oil is reddish orange colored in it's natural (unprocessed) state and a rich source of carotenes and and one of the best sources of vitamin E.

Unprocessed palm oil does have a bit of a strong taste that (for Americans) takes a little getting used to. (I use it when I cook fish, because my family doesn't notice the small flavor difference with the strong fish flavor covering it.) Processed palm oil has the flavor removed, but so are some of the nutrients. But even then, it is still much better for you than soy or canola oil.

I think it is high time Americans see what most of the rest of the world already knows, that switching to palm and coconut oil is definitely a change for the better! So, look for products that contain non-hydrogenated coconut or palm oil, or better yet, make your own healthy snacks with these oils.

• • • • •

To learn more about coconut oil and how it is helping people get healthier and lose weight, check out my website at http://Coconut-Oil-Diet.com now!

By Dianne Ronnow © 2006. These beverages account for more than a quarter of all drinks consumed in the United States. More than 15 billion gallons were sold in 2000. That works out to at least one 12-ounce can per day for every man, woman and child.

Sodas are full of empty calories and will contribute to obesity, tooth decay, weakened bones and caffeine dependence. Studies have shown strong links between children who drink sodas and childhood obesity. No one can deny the ties to soda and tooth decay, and it isn't just the high levels of sugar that cause it. The acids in sodas begin to etch away the tooth enamel within 20 minutes. These acids also upset the gastrointestinal system and cause many stomach disorders, as well as disturb the acid/base balance in the body, making an acid climate in which disease flourishes.

Sodas are a huge contributor to caffeine dependence, and it often starts with young children. And diet colas are often packed with a lot more caffeine than their regular counterparts. With the popularity of stimulant drinks such as Red Bull, that contain extra amounts of caffeine, there is a reported rise in aggressive behavior and violence among youths that consume these drinks.

Besides acids and caffeine, sodas contain phosphorus, an ingredient shown to weaken bones by promoting the loss of calcium. Phosphorus contributes to bone breakage during childhood, and osteoporosis later in life.

Another danger is aspartame added to diet sodas as a sugar substitute. There are over 92 different health related side effects associated with aspartame consumption, including brain tumors, birth defects, diabetes, emotional disorders and epilepsy/seizures. Plus, when aspartame is kept in warm areas or stored for long periods of time, it changes to methanol, an alcohol that converts to formaldehyde and formic acid, both of which are carcinogens.

There really are no good reasons to drink sodas. Juices, herbal teas and water are much better substitutes.

• • • • •

Thousands of people are losing weight and getting healthier adding coconut oil to their diets. Fat doesn't necessarily cause disease, and can actually cause a role in its prevention. The truth is that some fats are very bad for us and some fats are actually very good for us.

Time has shown us that diets that restrict all fats fail in terms of weight loss. Since the end of World War II, Americans have been told that they need to restrict saturated fat in their diets. So we switched to margarine from butter, and did what we could to restrict fat. We have been constantly told that the reason for our health problems is that we still eat too much fat, especially saturated fats.

Since Americans have been told to eat a low fat diet to lose weight, the results are that nearly two thirds of adult Americans are now classified as overweight and more children are overweight now than ever before. Obviously something is wrong. That is because we need special kinds of fats in our diets that we are not getting.

If you are like me, you grew up being told that vegetable oils were the good oils and saturated fats were the bad ones. Now we are finding out that it is just the opposite. Diets that are moderate to high in "good" saturated fats and oils such as coconut oil and olive oil are actually very good for us. They raise good cholesterol levels and lower bad cholesterol, blood glucose and blood pressure. As a matter of fact, people who started adding at least 4 tablespoons of coconut oil to their diets every day, have found that they can now lose weight when they could not before on a fat restricted diet. Sometimes the addition of these oils even helps with their health problems.

It turns out that the bad guys are polyunsaturated oils, which carry toxic fatty acids (long chain fatty acids or LCT's). These LCT's tend to produce fat in the body. Polyunsaturated oils are the vegetable oils we commonly see in the grocery store, such as soy, corn, cottonseed, rapeseed and safflower.

We have been told that they lower cholesterol, but they way that they do is not healthy, as it ends up collecting in the liver. These oils are easily oxidized and damaged by free radicals. When cooked they become rancid in a few hours, even in the refrigerator. This causes damage to our body at a cellular level, the end results showing up as problems like diabetes, cancer, hypothyroidism and heart disease. And if that is not enough, these oils help us to get fat, lower the metabolic rate in our bodies, help suppress the thyroid function and cause our skin to age quicker.

Trans-fat is one of the worst bad guys. Trans-fatty acids often appear on ingredient labels as hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. It is what they do to vegetable oils to make them into hard fats such as margarine and vegetable shortening. It is used in the prepared food industry in baked goods like cookies, crackers, and most supermarket peanut butter to prolong the shelf life. These bad fats are used almost exclusively in fast foods that are fried. When heated and eaten, they turn into something like poison in your system, because your body can not process this kind of chemically made fat. Trans-fats not only increase levels of bad cholesterol, but they will decrease levels of good cholesterol in the blood stream and trans-fatty acids have been linked to heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Fats such as margarine and shortening should be totally avoided, as well as foods items that contain them.

The United States FDA is finally catching up to this truth, and by January 2006 they will be requiring food products to label the amount of trans-fat they have in them.) What is frightening is that trans-fats are found in over 40% of the products on our supermarket shelves.

The fatty acid chains in coconut and olive oil are medium-chain fatty acids (MCT's) and they promote weight loss by increasing the body's metabolism to create energy. Coconut oil has become popular lately, because it has been discovered that coconut oil is nature's richest source of MTC's. If you decide to add coconut oil to your diet, it is recommended that you purchase virgin coconut oil (VCO), usually found in health food stores, because it from the best part of the coconut and has not been chemically bleached and heat processed. It is better for cooking than olive oil, because olive oil can be damaged by the heat of cooking, making it similar to the other vegetable oils in the body when cooked.

Even saturated fat from animals is not as bad as it once was thought to be, especially if it is from organically raised animals (free range and grass fed). Organic butter has a very high conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) content, which helps us lose weight and gain muscle. But non-organic meats may still be dangerous because of the way the animals were raised or fed. Most grocery store meats are filled with hormones, pesticides, medicines and unhealthy fat that gets transferred to us when we eat it.

Organic grass fed and free range meat and eggs avoid these problems, and give us a much healthier source of protein and saturated fat. Organic saturated fats and oils are actually good for you and should be eaten daily. The body needs these fats for healthy functioning.

So, forget the guilt and fry up that range-fed chicken in some coconut oil and enjoy!

• • • • •

Thousands of people are losing weight and getting healthier adding coconut oil to their diets. All living cells contain enzymes. They are hard to visualize, since they are not something tangible, but they are essential to our bodies and our lives depend on them.

There are many kinds of enzymes, and they do everything from helping us breath to helping begin life at conception. Eighty percent of our DNA code relates to enzymes. But the kind of enzymes discussed here relate to our digestion and the food we eat.

In the process of digestion, the digestive enzymes in our bodies break down food into tiny microscopic parts that the body can use for fuel, growth and repair. One food may take hundreds of different types of enzymes for the body to digest.

Food is naturally filled with enzymes, called "food enzymes", that help us to digest that food. The problem is that when we cook or process it, we kill those enzymes. Temperatures over 118 degrees will destroy the enzymes. A good example of this is pineapple, which has some very powerful digestive enzymes in it. These enzymes work so well that when added to gelatin (like Jello), the enzymes won't allow the gelatin to thicken. So they only kind of pineapple you can add to gelatin is canned pineapple, which has been cooked and processed so that all the enzymes have been destroyed. It is now safe to add to gelatin, but not as good for your body.

Our body can manufacture enzymes, called digestive enzymes, in the pancreas. But when we eat a diet that is filled with mostly cooked and processed foods, depleted of enzymes, the pancreas is forced to work much harder than it was meant to, manufacturing the enzymes the body needs to digest these foods.

So the pancreas ends up overworking, and the body spends much needed energy and resources on digestion instead of important things like boosting the immune system, growth, repairs in the body and fighting disease. Even worse, if the pancreas becomes so overworked that it shuts down, then bits of undigested food start floating around the body in the bloodstream, causing all kinds of trouble.

The pancreas can be healed in time, with a diet of raw foods filled with enzymes. This same kind of diet, filled with raw fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts, will keep the pancreas from getting that bad to begin with, and will enable the body to spend it's energy on more important processes like boosting the immune system and fighting disease.

This is why it is so vital that we eat a diet containing lots of fresh enzyme filled raw foods. Especially in the world we live in today, where we are surrounded by poisons and things that cause cancer. We need these wholesome foods now more than humans ever have in the past, to help our bodies stay disease free and functioning properly.

• • • • •

Thousands of people are losing weight and getting healthier adding coconut oil to their diets. Legumes are healthy complex carbohydrates, full of vitamins and minerals as well as fiber. They are a good source of protein, although they do not have all the amino acids (the building blocks of protein) that the body needs, so supplement your legumes with a variety of foods to get the complete protein your body needs.

Beans have also been shown to help lower the risk of Diabetes and heart disease. Eating a cup of cooked beans a day can lower your total cholesterol by up to 10% in 6 weeks, which decreases your risk of heart disease by 20%. The phytonutrients in beans also help lower the risk of cancer.

Canned beans will give you the much of the same benefits as dried beans, so if you don't like to cook your beans from scratch, canned beans are a good alternative.

Some people avoid beans because of the gas and bloating that beans cause. This can be avoided in several ways. First always soak your dried beans overnight, and then discard that water and replace it with fresh water before you cook the beans. If beans still cause you problems, you might try gradually increasing the amount of beans you eat over several week, to help your body adapt. You could also try the product "Beano" found in most stores. It works well for most people.

Seeds and nuts can also be an important source of healthy fiber, plus they are often satisfying and help control the appetite. Nuts and seeds are full of healthy unprocessed monosaturated fats as well.

You might also seriously consider adding bean and seed sprouts to your diet, if you don't eat them already. The nutritional content of sprouts is many times greater than the original seed or bean it sprouted from. Sprouts have the highest concentration of nutrition per calorie than any food. They are also known for their high enzyme activity, which is never surpassed in any other stage of plant growth.

Beans are almost always a good food choice, but one exception to this is soybeans. Although soy is a popular "healthy" additive to food today, originally the Chinese did not eat soybeans as they did other beans because they knew that soybeans contained harmful substances. Soybeans contain powerful enzyme inhibitors which block the action of the enzymes the body needs for protein digestion. Even cooking them does not get rid of these substances, which cause gas and bloating, as well as other very serious problems in the body, like cancer and blood clots.

The only soy products that do not cause these health problems are the traditional fermented soy products, such as tempeh, natto, miso and shoyu (tamari or soy sauce,) since the lengthy fermentation process seems to get rid of most of the harmful substances, and allow the soy to be easily digested. All other soy products should be avoided, and definitely not used as a replacement for meat in the diet.

• • • • •

Thousands of people are losing weight and getting healthier adding coconut oil to their diets. And taking control of your health doesn't really depend on whether or not you have medical conditions.

Taking control means developing habits and discipline.

The most important thing you can do is educate yourself. Learn about your health problems and how you can take care of your body. What do the latest studies say? The Internet is an excellent place to research health issues. Sometimes just finding different ways of doing things can help.

Now, take the time to decide what your health goals for the next year will be. Write the goal(s) down. Some examples of goals might be:

    * to stop yo-yo dieting and focus on get healthier.
    * to start exercising regularly.
    * to move toward my perfect weight.
    * to find alternative ways to control diabetes.

Then list specific ways you can accomplish these goals. For instance, try a new healthy dinner recipe once a week, go to the gym five days a week, or research nutrition on the Internet 10 minutes a day.

Work on your mind and thought patterns. You have to believe that you can become healthy and reach your ideal weight before you will be able to do so. Learning to accept what you can?t change, but striving to change what you can, is key. A large part of succeeding in health improvement is being comfortable with yourself to begin with.

Find time to do something good to reward yourself for making this commitment to improve your health. Reward yourself each week as you find yourself accomplishing your goals.

If you have another person to work with, you will be more successful in meeting your health goals. This partner should be someone you can trust to share your feelings with.

It helps to have a partner for accountability. We work harder when we know someone is watching us and holding us accountable. A good partner also helps us stay realistic in our goals and challenges us to grow.

Try to find someone who will encourage you in the down times and celebrate your successes with you as you accomplish your goals. And of course you need to be that kind of a partner to your friend in return.

You might consider forming an informal support group with some of your friends or acquaintances. People who belong to a group with mutual interests and a shared purpose accomplish more. A group might get together weekly or monthly and discuss progress or concerns and help encourage each other. Sometimes all a person might need is another opinion or just a little encouragement to help them get past a place where they are having problems. Even if you are doing great, perhaps you could be of help to someone else who is struggling.

Communication is important when putting together a group. Set up a regular time and method to report progress to each other and stick to it. Set realistic benchmarks to monitor your progress. Reward yourselves for your effort. Do something fun as a group once in a while.

There can be great rewards in working with others toward common goals. It makes the journey more enjoyable as well as more productive.

• • • • •

Thousands of people are losing weight and getting healthier adding coconut oil to their diets. The human body works hard to eliminate toxins, but as exposure increases, the body is less able to detoxify. One way we can help eliminate these toxins is to have periodic fast days.

Fast days are very beneficial to help the body cleanse and heal. It is recommended that you fast twice a month for a couple of days or better yet, fast one day a week. Try to fast at least one day a month to start.

Because most of us are filled with toxins, it is much harder on the body to fast by consuming only water. A juice fast is recommended over a water fast for people beginning fasting for the first time. The juice of fruits and vegetables is filled with healing, cleansing properties, which allow the body to gently and safely detoxify. Juice is packed with vitamins, minerals, living enzymes, antioxidants and phytochemicals. The nutrients go into the body and the toxins come out.

Juice fasting can include fresh juice, herbal teas sweetened with honey or Sucanat, vegetable broth, Barley Green, wheatgrass juice, and supplements helpful to your specific condition.

You may consider modifying the fast by including slices of avocado or banana to slow the cleansing process. Modified juice fasting is good for those with health restrictions such as diabetes or hypoglycemia. Bananas and avocados are slow to digest and maintain a stable blood sugar level. Their high calorie content slows the intensity of the fast and, because they are easy to digest, the body still devotes energy to cleansing.

If you are concerned about the levels of toxins you may have in your body, a simple hair mineral analysis can determine stored tissue levels of toxic metals. Hair analysis should be done every 3 to 6 months to check metal levels.

Periodic fasting is a great way to get your body on the fast track to detoxification.

• • • • •

Thousands of people are losing weight and getting healthier adding coconut oil to their diets. Self-discipline is the act of controlling our emotions, actions, thoughts, words and personal direction. Some people seem to be naturally self-controlled and some seem to have no self-control at all. Others seem to constantly struggle with self-discipline.

Discipline is learning to say "no" to our primitive uncontrolled cravings and selfish destructive desires. We develop self-management when we begin to distinguish the difference between what is actually needed and what is truly unnecessary.

Because of the ease of modern society and our ability to get anything we want at a push of a button or the swipe of a card, it is far more difficult to exert self-control today than it has been in any other time in human history. Added to this is the brainwashing of advertising that tells us to crave things.

The first step to gaining self-control is to identify the areas where we are out of control. Work on self-denial in the areas you want to change. Deny your self a certain pleasure each day. Then begin to start small with little victories each day, like eating one less snack or watching one less television show.

A key to discipline is developing routines. People who have routines tend to be more disciplined and accomplish more. If you are one of those people who have trouble with routines, try adding just one at a time. Keep it simple. Work on the things that are most important first. Evaluate yourself regularly to see how you are doing. Reward yourself for keeping at it. Once it becomes a habit, it is much easier to maintain.

Of course, routines can be done to excess, so remember to give yourself a little healthy leeway in case the unexpected comes up.

The power behind some of the world's greatest achievements is strong motivation and the ability to persist despite previous failures. Motivation is the fire that fuels our efforts toward success. There is no use in trying to master self-discipline if you have no motivation to have it. Motivation is a result of strong personal desire that directs a person's actions and thoughts and helps create situations that move toward a specific accomplishment.

Motivation must come from within, not from an outside source. For example, if you diet because your spouse wants you to, it is poor motivation, and you will probably not do well at it. It is only when you truly desire to control your habits and behaviors that you will achieve self-discipline. Motivation brings about true change.

One way to increase motivation is through pressure. Tell your friends, co-workers and family about your commitment to change something in your life. Peer pressure can be a powerful motivator.

Motivation works hand in hand with self-discipline and organization. Lack in these areas can lead to a greater number of failures and failures lead to poor motivation. When you begin to structure your day and organize yourself, the motivation that moved you to change will continue to add fuel to the fire.

As you work toward change in your life, you will eventually experience failure. The only way to defeat failure is through persistence and perseverance. The most common reason people give up on achieving their goals is because they encountered failure once or twice and they become afraid to try again. Winston Churchill once said, "Success is going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm." Before you even begin, you must plan to deal with failure. Be ready to persevere. Vow to never give up, no matter what, no matter how long it takes!

• • • • •

Thousands of people are losing weight and getting healthier adding coconut oil to their diets. It is almost impossible to get too much of these foods. They are full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients, as well as high in complex carbohydrates. And fruits and vegetables are an important source of fiber, as well. Even the much maligned potato, eaten baked with the skin on, is full of vitamins C and B6, potassium, and nearly 5 grams of fiber!

When eaten raw, the enzymes that most vegetables and fruits contain help the body process foods better. Enzymes are an essential part of our diet, and if it is not found in food, the body must draw from its store of energy to produce enzymes for digestion, instead of other important jobs, such as fighting disease.

Phytochemicals are nutritional substances that recently have been in the news frequently. These are naturally occurring chemicals in plants that are thought to possess disease-fighting properties and play a potentially important role in fighting cancer and heart disease. Recent research demonstrates that they stimulate enzymes that breakdown carcinogens into harmless substances, and appear to be particularly protective against stomach and intestinal cancers.

Most whole foods contain phytochemicals, including whole grains, beans and herbs. Garlic and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, are some of the richest sources of phytonutrients, as well as fruits like blueberries, cherries and apples.

If you have hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid), go easy on the raw cruciferous vegetables (such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, brussels sprouts and rutabagas.) They are believed by some to help depress the thyroid function when eaten raw. But don’t avoid these important vegetables, just be sure to cook them. On the other hand, if you are suffering from hyperthyroidism (an overactive thyroid), you should eat plenty of raw cruciferous vegetables.

Many studies have shown that increasing your vegetable and fruit intake may dramatically reduce or even prevent other chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease. Some scientists are now recommending up to nine servings a day of fruits and vegetables.

To get the most from your diet, try to eat a variety of different fruits and vegetables. Choose leafy greens often, lots of berries, and try to eat as many colors as you can, since every color of fruit or vegetable will give you different benefits.

The Japanese have a tradition of choosing foods with five different colors and flavors for their meals. The five colors they include are yellow, black, white, green, and red. The five flavors included are sweet, spicy, salty, bitter and sour. Take an example from the Japanese and think variety. Be daring-- try out new foods and food combinations.

• • • • •

The best raw whole superfood supplement I have ever found is called Masaji™ by Be Young. An alarming new study published in the Journal of Food Composition and Analysis reveals that Americans are getting nearly one-third of their calories from junk foods.

But even if we are trying to eat as healthy as we can, the foods that we think are healthy are often far less nutritious than they used to be. It is no coincidence that the quality of healthy food has been deteriorating as malnourishment and illness have been on the rise in the U.S. and other developed countries.

Here's what several notable experts in the field have to say about the quality of our food today:

    * "Wheat from the US has been rejected at China's ports because the protein content was so low," states Dr. Michael Colgan, LaJolla, CA.

    * A statement from the Agricultural Testament given to the Congress of the United States states "the impoverished soil of America no longer provides plant food with the mineral elements essential to human nourishment and health."

    * Dr. Alexis Carrel, Nobel Prize Winner says, "Chemical fertilizers, by increasing the abundance of the crops without replacing all the exhausted elements of the soil, have indirectly contributed to change the nutritive value of cereal grains and vegetables."

A recent analysis of a range of staple foods in Canada, commissioned by The Globe and Mail and CTV news, included potatoes, tomatoes, bananas, apples, onion and broccoli.

This is what the analysis found for potatoes:

Over the last 50 years the potato has lost:

    * 100% of its Vitamin A

    * 57% of its Vitamin C and iron.

    * 28% of its Calcium.

    * 50% of its riboflavin

    * 18% of its thiamin

Of the seven nutrients analyzed only niacin levels had increased. The results were similar for all the 25 fruits and vegetables tested. One of the worst results was from broccoli in which ALL nutrients had declined measurably including niacin, with Calcium down 63%.

Tim Lang a professor at the center for Food Policy in England says as a further example of how our food has been degraded is that you would now have to eat eight oranges today to get the same amount of Vitamin A that your grandparents got from eating just one orange.

These foods that have low nutritional values play an important part in obesity and poor health in general. How can the body function when it doesn’t get the good fuel it needs? Many experts believe that the human body is capable of healing itself of every disease known to man. However,we must give it what it requires to heal itself and stop interfering with its innate healing process.

What can be done about this problem?

    * Try to eat organic fruit and vegetables wherever possible.

    * Avoid processed and junk foods! Not only are they nutritionally empty, but they have harmful ingredients that poison the body, such as trans-fats due to the hydrogenated processing methods that are used.

    * Take a quality nutritional supplement. A multi-vitamin/mineral tablet is not adequate because they use synthetic ingredients with both questionable efficacy and bio-availability. They isolate a few nutrients and leave out many other important nutrients. Find a nutritional supplement that is made of whole foods. It should be raw so you get all the enzymes you need as well.

The best raw whole food supplement I have ever found is called Masaji™ by Be Young. The first thing that usually comes to mind when the word malnourished is used is the images we have seen of starving children in Africa and other third world countries. But are you aware that at the majority of Americans are malnourished?

Is it possible that we can be malnourished while eating a full plate of food? Absolutely! Malnourishment is without doubt a leading factor in a wide variety of health problems including cancers.

America is a sick country! Nearly 99% of its inhabitants suffer in some manner. Untold millions suffer from excruciating pains and throes of cancer, arthritis, asthma, and other chronic diseases. This has been confirmed by studies showing people in the US, Canada and the UK are amongst the most malnourished in the world. This is the case, in spite of obesity reaching epidemic proportions in the US. And the obese people are some of the most malnourished people!

Consider These Facts:

    * Today 86% of America’s children cannot pass a minimum physical fitness test. That compares to 58.6% in 1954.

    * Some 1,500 billion dollars ($1.5 trillion) were spent in 1995 on health care (or rather diseases.)

    * In 1900 diabetes was the 27th leading cause of death. Today it is the 3rd leading cause of death. Insulin was discovered in 1922.

    * One out of five Americans under the age of 17 already has a chronic disease.

    * Three out of ten Americans (33%) will have cancer this year. 80% of these people will die and their death will be attributed to cancer.

    * Arthritis and rheumatic complaints will affect 77% of our adult population.

    * About 22% of Americans suffer from allergies.

    * About 34% of Americans are obese, 60% are overweight. Yet nearly all Americans are malnourished in one way or another despite gross overeating.

    * Over 50% of Americans suffer from chronic digestive disorder.

    * Constipation is a national disease. Nine out of ten Americans suffer from clogged colons.

    * Surveys, tests and health evaluation programs reveal that American’s medical professionals (physicians) are sicker and more diseased than the average American.

    * According to the U.S. Statistical Abstract of 1992..... 98.5% of Americans are unhealthy! And the situation has only gotten worse since 1992!

Author Mike Adams says, “It explains why obesity is rampant, diabetes is epidemic, and chronic disease is skyrocketing: we are a nation of people who are simultaneously overfed and malnourished. In other words, we're getting plenty of calories, but very little nutrition.”

According to Mike, an alarming new study published in the Journal of Food Composition and Analysis reveals that Americans are getting nearly one-third of their calories from junk foods such as soft drinks, sweets, desserts, alcoholic beverages, and salty snacks. These foods are filled with empty calories that have little or no nutritional value.

What can we do to fight malnutrition?

    * Try to eat organic fruit and vegetables wherever possible.

    * Avoid processed and junk foods! Not only are they nutritionally empty, but they have harmful ingredients that poison the body, such as trans-fats due to the hydrogenated processing methods that are used.

    * Take a quality nutritional supplement. A multi vitamin/mineral tablet is not adequate because they use synthetic ingredients with both questionable efficacy and bio-availability. They isolate a few nutrients and leave out many other important nutrients. Find a nutritional supplement that is made of whole foods. It need to be raw so you get all the enzymes you need as well.

The best raw whole food supplement I have ever found is called Masaji™ by Be Young. It is a raw food liquid supplement based on the powerful nutrition of marine phytoplankton.

Masaji's™ raw whole food ingredients provide our bodies with the essential minerals, nutrients, vitamins, co-enzymes, enzymes and amino acids that we need to promote optimum health.

For more information on Masaji™ go to http://superphyto.com now!

By Dianne Ronnow © 2006. Outspoken spokesperson for The Vegetarian and Vegan Foundation, Heather Mills McCartney (x-wife of singer Paul McCartney) is bringing the dangers of modern milk to attention of the press.

"As Heather Mills McCartney speaks out about the health problems associated with dairy products, physicians and nutritionists with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) are urging U.K. consumers to try an experiment: Eliminate milk and other dairy products from their diet for three weeks to experience firsthand the health benefits of a dairy-free diet," according to a PR Newswire release.

Although I don't agree with a lot of what Heather Mills McCartney believes, I do agree with the the facts. Homogenized pasteurized milk causes many health problems. Despite the fact that the dairy industry, with their money and power, want you to think otherwise.

The problem isn't with milk. Dairy products have been a major part of many cultures? diets for thousands of years. Many people and races throughout history have lived almost solely on milk and dairy products, and have been extremely healthy for it. But the dairy products we have in our grocery stores now are very different than the dairy products consumed by people in the past.

The problem today is how we get our dairy products and how they are processed. Modern dairy cows are exposed to hormones, antibiotics, and pesticides, and fed a diet of high-protein soy and grain based feed instead of traditional grass feeding methods.

And then the milk they produce is homogenized, which alters the organic structure so the cream will blend into the milk. Unfortunately the new smaller fat particles don?t work well in our bodies, and can get into the blood stream. There is a very high correlation between countries that drink homogenized milk and the rise of atherosclerosis.

Pasteurizing milk is heating it until it is a dead food with little or no benefit to us. It is robbed of its enzymes and many of its vitamins. Today's milk is know to cause allergic reactions in many individuals, because of the lack of enzymes needed to process the milk in our bodies. Enzymes are killed when they are heated to temperatures over 120 degrees F.

The modern milk produced now is something highly processed and unnatural. If that isn?t enough, when they make 1% and 2% milk, they add non-fat dried milk to these products to lower the fat percentage. Non-fat dried milk is ultra-processed, which oxidizes the cholesterol. Rancid (oxidized) cholesterol and fats are also what promote heart disease. Dried milk contains a very high nitrite content as well.

You will be hearing more and more about the dangers of modern milk. If you want safe healthy milk, try organic, raw milk from grass fed cows. Raw milk still has all its nutrients and enzymes, and many people have found it helpful for allergies, asthma problems and other health conditions. To find a source of raw milk near you go to http://www.realmilk.com.

My challenge to you is instead of eliminating milk products for three weeks, switch to organic raw milk products for three weeks. Once you try it, and experience the benefits and taste for yourself, you won't go back to the imitation grocery store stuff! The underlying causes of this disease are poor nutrition, overweight/obesity, physical inactivity and genetic factors.

A person is considered to have metabolic syndrome if they have at least three of any of the characteristics below:

    * Central obesity-- excessive fat tissue around the abdomen.
    * High triglycerides (a bad type of fat in the blood.)
    * Low HDL cholesterol ("good? cholesterol.)
    * Insulin resistance or glucose intolerance (high blood sugar levels)
    * High blood pressure (130/85 mmHg or higher.)
    * Proinflammatory state (predisposed to inflammation in the body on a cellular level.)
    * Prothrombotic state (predisposed to blood clots.)

Metabolic Syndrome X is a disease that is plaguing the modern world. It's estimated that about 20/25 percent of adults in the United States have it, and the numbers are on the rise around the world.

These diseases were practically unknown to most of the world 100 years ago. (See Weston A. Price's classic book, "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration.") It has only been since processed foods have been introduced that these modern diseases have increased.

Help For Metabolic Syndrome X

The odds are that you or someone you are close to has metabolic syndrome. The best thing you can do is to educate yourself. Start living a healthier lifestyle. Exercise in moderation. Evaluate your diet. Stop eating processed foods-- avoid anything with white flour, white sugar, processed oils (especially hydrogenated oils!) and soy (unless it is fermented like miso or soy sauce).

Eat healthy organic meats and saturated fats like coconut oil and butter. The more we have cut those foods out, the faster the modern diseases characterized by metabolic syndrome have spread. Eat whole grains, and soak or sprout them for better digestibility. Try to go back to as much of a traditional diet as you can. Eat organic fruits and vegetables as much as possible. Supplement your diet with a daily dose of cod liver oil. This will give you a great start for fighting Metabolic Syndrome X.

• • • • •

Dianne's website reveals the secrets of people who are losing weight and getting healthier with coconut oil at http://Coconut-Oil-Diet.com. Enig, PhD, recent research contradicts claims that coconut oil causes atherosclerosis and heart disease.

In these studies, from 2003- 2005, virgin coconut oil helped lower total cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids and low density lipoproteins (LDL). It was also shown to prevent in vitro LDL-oxidation (which is something that can start the process of atherosclerosis). There is also evidence that coconut oil is useful as a successful treatment for acute aluminum phosphide poisoning.

You don't have to worry about coconut oil being a "bad saturated fat." There is abounding evidence that coconut oil is far better for you than polyunsaturated vegetable oils. (And it doesn't even compare to the extremely unhealthy hydrogenated trans-fats.)

Coconut oil is full of healthy benefits. Next to mother's milk, it is nature's highest source of medium chain fatty acids (MTC's), which raise the body's metabolism, leading to weight loss. It has fatty acids such as lauric acid and monoglycerides, similar to mother's breast milk.

When lauric acid is consumed in the body, whether through mother's milk or coconut oil, it enhances the immune system to help the body fight infections, diseases, bad bacteria and yeast invasions. Lauric aid is known to be anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial.

Coconut oil raises the metabolism, which helps people who are trying to lose weight and people suffering from thyroid problems. Coconut stabilizes the blood sugar levels, helping with diabetes. People are adding coconut oil to their diets and are getting incredible results. They are losing weight, getting more energy, and getting healthier.

Coconut oil is safe to use, and does not turn to fat in your body. It raises the metabolism, so you burn more fat and have more energy. It does not increase your cholesterol, but actually helps lower it. Coconut oil is wonderful diet addition for just about everyone.

It also protects the heart cells from damage.

Coconut oil helps relieve the symptoms of menopause, and pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS). Many women who suffer the effects of PMS have found the symptoms lessened when coconut oil was consumed often in their diet.

Coconut oil does not raise cholesterol. Studies have shown that people who use coconut oil have lower cholesterol than those who do not, even when the people consuming coconut also eat other high cholesterol foods like eggs and meat.

Unlike refined vegetable oils, coconut oil does not become rancid easily. When oil becomes rancid it becomes toxic as it oxidizes and causes free-radical damage in the body. The unsaturated oils in cooked foods can become rancid within hours of cooking it, even in the refrigerator. Coconut oil is so stable that it can be left a room temperature for at least a year, and it will not become rancid. Some coconut oil producers say coconut oil will last at least 3 years at room temperature before becoming rancid. Since it is such a stable cooking oil, you can use coconut oil in place of other oils, margarine, butter and shortening, for all your cooking needs.

Coconut oil smells good, tastes pleasant and is so good for our bodies that some people consume it straight, by the tablespoon, and use it in place of other oils on their salads. Many people also use it as an ingredient when juicing or making smoothies.

If all this good news isn't enough, coconut oil one of the best things you can apply directly on your skin and hair. It not only gives temporary relief to skin problems like rashes, but it aids in healing and restoring skin to a younger appearance. It has also been known to help with people who suffer from yeast infections in the skin, and there is solid research that shows the MCTs in coconut oil do overcome yeast infections. Coconut oil also makes an excellent massage oil.

• • • • •

Thousands of people are losing weight and getting healthier adding coconut oil to their diets. Added to this is the tendency we have to eat fast and prepared foods on the run, and we have a nutritional crisis going on. This can be seen by the poor quality of health found in most developed nations. We can take a vitamin pill, but even if some of it is absorbed, it still doesn’t cover the vast amount of missing nutrients in our diet.

That’s why many experts agree that it is important to supplement your diet with superfoods. Superfoods are whole foods that have a natural concentrated abundance of nutrition and phytonutrients in a form that the body can easily absorb and utilize. Phytonutrients are natural plant-based chemicals that promote proper metabolic functions, such as: general nutrition, cardiovascular health, cholesterol, blood sugars, neurological support, skin care, vision, liver health, and energy.

A few of the many popular superfoods right now are:

Blueberries-- which are high in antioxidant compounds called anthocyanins that reduce free-radicals in the body, which may help to slow the aging process.

Leafy Dark Green Vegetables-- such as spinach, kale, swiss chard and romaine lettuce. They contain beta-carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin that work together to support overall health, as well as vitamin B and some minerals.

Omega-3 Fish-- Cold-water fish like cod, wild salmon, tuna and trout contain beneficial omega-3 fatty acids. Research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.

Sea Vegetables (Seaweed)-- have anti-inflammatory and stress-relief qualities, as well as the ability to lower the risk of heart disease. Certain types of seaweed, such as kelp, also have very high levels of iodine, which is essential in regulating the thyroid -- the gland that controls most of the body's physiological functions. Some varieties of sea vegetables can be a great sources of vitamin B, magnesium, iron, folate, and calcium.

All these powerhouse foods, and others like them, are important to consume on a regular basis. Even if you eat a well balanced organic diet, and are getting most of what you need, a trace mineral could be chronically missing from your diet. Without this mineral, you could find it hard to stay energetic and may even effect your weight your moods your hormones and many other areas of your health. So supplementing with superfoods may be the answer.

One of the most complete whole food superfoods in the world is marine phytoplankton. Phytoplankton are collectively known as micro algae. These single-cell plants are the basis of all other life forms on planet earth, they are the 'vegetation' of the ocean. Phytoplankton are responsible for making up to 90% of Earth's oxygen.

Marine phytoplankton have the unique ability to transform sunlight, raw inorganic minerals, and carbon dioxide into invaluable superfood for living things. Phytoplankton have all the vitamins, minerals (from 200 sea vegetables), essential fatty acids, antioxidants, amino acids that are required for good health. And since they are so nutrient dense, very little is required to achieve significant nutritional benefit.

Marine phytoplankton are a better source of minerals than any other vegetable because they contains all the minerals found in human blood, because the minerals in sea water are similar to those found in our blood, with nearly identical concentrations.

The best source of marine phytoplankton is in an amazing product called Masaji™. With over 200 types of diverse chlorophyll rich plankton nutrients for achieving maximum health benefits, Masaji™ is one of the best tasting and healthiest supplements ever made.

Masaji™ is processed without the use of any chemicals or heat. It combines the benefits of marine phytoplankton’s phytonutrients with some other of the most potent superfoods on the planet, like the maqui berry. Masaji™ is raw living whole food product that is easily assimilated and immediately bio-available in the body.

Masaji™ gives your body what it needs most and is an optimum solution for a high impact total food. People all over the world are experiencing the healthy benefits of using coconut oil. It is actually one of the healthiest oils you can consume. Here are the top seven reasons why you should use coconut oil as an alternative to other common cooking oils.

1. Coconut oil doesn't turn to fat in your body.

Unlike many other common oils, like soy (vegetable) and corn, coconut oil won't make you fat. Coconut oil contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCT), which are an easy fuel for the body to burn, without turning to fat. Most other cooking oils and fats contain long-chain triglycerides (LCT). LCT's are usually stored as fat. Since coconut oil is a MCT, it is more easily absorbed and converted to energy quicker.

People in the tropics have relied on coconuts as a traditional staple in their diet for centuries. They consume large amounts of coconut oil every day. Instead of getting fatter, it helps them stay healthy, lean and trim. When they switch from coconut oil to our modern oils, they develop obesity and the health problems that our modern society faces.

Some other people who have known this truth for a long time are people who are in the animal feed business. When livestock are fed vegetable oils, they put on weight and produce more fatty meat. When they are fed coconut oil, they become very lean.

2. Coconut oil increases your metabolism.

Not only does coconut oil convert to energy quicker in your body, it increases your metabolism, which promotes weight loss. Because it boosts your metabolism, it helps your body burn fat more effectively.

Coconut oil may triple your calorie burn. Since coconut oil is a MCT, it is converted to energy so quickly that it creates a lot of heat. In a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, MCT's burn three times more calories for six hours after a meal than LCT's.

The February 15, 2005 issue of Woman's World magazine stated that coconut oil is the "underground high-metabolism secret."

This is great news for people who have thyroid problems, since coconut oil improves sluggish thyroids by stimulating the production of extra thyroid hormones. Most other common oils, like vegetable (soy) and corn have been shown to inhibit thyroid function.

3. Coconut oil contains lauric acid.

Lauric acid is a medium-chain fatty acid found mainly in coconut oil. When lauric acid is present in the body, it is converted into monolaurin, a compound which disrupts the lipid membranes in fungus, bacteria and viruses, which destroys these subtances. This means that coconut oil has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral effects when both consumed and used topically on the skin. Plus lauric acid is not toxic, unlike most prescription medicines.

4. Coconut oil gives you energy.

Because of the healthy fatty acids like lauric acid, and the fact that it increases the metabolism, most people that switch to coconut oil feel a burst of added energy in their daily life.

This is because coconut oil is nature's richest source of medium-chain triglycerides (MCT's), which increase metabolic rates and lead to weight loss. MCT's promote thermogenesis, which increases the body's metabolism, producing energy.

This is because coconut oil is nature's richest source of medium-chain triglycerides (MCT's), which increase metabolic rates and lead to weight loss. MCT's promote thermogenesis, which increases the body's metabolism, producing energy. Many people with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia have found that adding coconut and coconut oil to their diet was helpful to them.

5. One of the best things you can use on your skin and hair is coconut oil.

Coconut oil one of the best things you can apply directly on your skin and hair. It gives temporary relief to skin problems like rashes. It aids in healing and restoring skin to a younger appearance. It has also been known to help with people who suffer from yeast infections in the skin, as well as many other skin problems.

Not only does is soften and smooth your skin, coconut oil has antioxidant properties that protect the skin from free radical damage. Coconut oil makes excellent massage oil too.

6. Coconut oil has healthy benefits that most other oils do not.

Most oils oxidize and turn rancid very quickly causing free radical damage in our bodies. Coconut oil is not easily oxidized and does not cause harmful free radical damage like polyunsaturated vegetable oils. Free radical damage is thought to be responsible for many ailments in our body from arthritis to increased susceptibility to cancers.

Coconut oil also helps our bodies absorb other nutrients more effectively, such as Vitamin E.

7. Coconut oil is one of the best oils you can use for cooking.

It has a higher smoke point than olive oil and many other cooking oils, which means it can take higher temperatures better. There are several healthy omega 3 oils we can choose to consume, such as flax seed oil, but they don't do well under the high heat we use for cooking. Coconut oil can be used in higher cooking temperatures.

It is harder for coconut oil to go rancid, unlike most other cooking oils you find in the grocery store, which are usually rancid long before you even bring them home. Rancid oils cause free radical damage in the body, which is a leading cause of cancer. Coconut oil is stable for over a year at room temperature.

Because of the misinformation we have been given for years, we have lost out on the healthy benefits that coconut oil has given the people of the tropics for centuries. But now it has been rediscovered! Coconut oil is so effective, it won't be long before we see coconut oil supplements promoted, but you can get the jump on the popular crowd and start consuming and cooking with coconut oil today!

With all these healthy benefits, isn't it time you gave coconut oil a try? We exercise and go out of our way to eat the best foods we can. Most of us already know that trans-fats, white sugar and white flour are not the best health choices, especially if we want to keep our weight down.

Unfortunately some of the very foods that we think are healthy are ones that can cause a lot of trouble for our bodies, and even make us ill. Below is a list of some surprisingly unhealthy "health foods."

Artificial Sweeteners

Many people who are dieting, whether it is low calorie or low carb diets, will opt for beverages with artificial sweeteners instead of sugar. Admittedly sugar is certainly a troublemaker and should be avoided, but artificial sweeteners are actually worse for you and could even be dangerous to your health.

All the artificial sweeteners are bad, but one of the worst sweeteners for us is NutraSweet (Equal, aspartame). There are over 92 different health related side effects associated with aspartame consumption, including brain tumors, birth defects, diabetes, emotional disorders and epilepsy/seizures. There are more adverse reactions to NutraSweet reported to the FDA than all other foods and additives combined.

A much better alternative to chemically derived sweeteners is stevia, which comes from a plant. It has been used for centuries with no know side effects. It can be purchased in most health food stores in the United States.

Sports Drinks
Although marketers would have us believe that sports drinks are what the body needs when exercising heavily, the truth is that sports drinks are filled with sugar (sucrose, glucose, and fructose) and salt (potassium and sodium) as well as artificial flavorings and colorings. Add a little salt to Cool-Aid and you have about the same thing. You would be much better off drinking spring water or diluted freshly squeezed juices while exercising.

One of the best natural drinks you can use for sports hydration is coconut water. The juice is packed with simple sugar, electrolytes and minerals to replenish hydration levels in the body.

Most Energy and Sports Bars
Most sports and bars are also filled with things that are not the best for our bodies, and are little better than candy bars. Many of them contain sugar or artificial sweeteners, chemicals, preservatives, and synthetic nutrients. Check the ingredients before you buy an energy bar. Try to find one that is made with whole foods, such as oats and flax seeds, fruits, and natural sweeteners.

Soy Products

This is one of the most surprising ones of all, after all soy has been used for countless generations in Asia. But the way we now use soy is very different than the way the Asians have traditionally used it. The ancient Asians knew that the soybean was hard to digest, so they had extensive fermenting processes that broke down most of the indigestible components, making it much healthier to eat. Examples of this would be products like soy sauce, tempeh, and miso. These were used in small amounts as condiments and flavorings, not as a meat replacement.

Unfortunately, the way we use soy as a meat alternative (texturized vegetable protein or TVP) can be very unhealthy, since soy contains large amounts of toxins or anti-nutrients. Some of the problems the anti-nutrients in soybeans cause are conditions of the pancreas, cancer and thyroid problems. Soybeans also can block the body's absorption of essential minerals.

Granola (and Other Unprepared Grains)
For the last 30-40 years granola has been synonymous with heath food. But eating unprepared grains, or grains that have not been soaked, fermented or sprouted, has only come about in the last 50-100 years. People who lived before our time understood that unprepared grains could cause dietary distress.

There are anti-nutrients in grains (like there are in soybeans), such as phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors, that make them harder to digest. These anti-nutrients can cause serious problems like Crohn's disease, colitis, and even mental disorders. Our failure to prepare our grains properly is one of the reasons that celactic disease is so prevalent now.

So, stay away from the granola. Oatmeal is an excellent addition to our diets, but use whole rolled oats (not instant) and soak them overnight before boiling them for breakfast. Go to our recipe blog at http://coconut-recipes.blogspot.com for a good recipe for coconut oatmeal.

Good breads to eat are those that have properly prepared grains, including whole grain sourdough and sprouted grain breads. You can usually find these in specialty grocery stores and health food stores.

If you are trying to lose weight and/or eat healthier, remember that just because a company markets a "healthy" product well or a health food store sells it, it doesn't mean that it is really healthy for you. Do some research before you grab that sports bar, or better yet, reach for an organic apple, cherries, or some other natural (not processed) food. Your body will thank you and reward you for it.

• • • • •

Thousands of people are losing weight and getting healthier adding coconut oil to their diets. As more amazing research news comes in about chocolate, the substance is moving from a bad-for-you candy to an important health food. Those of us who had always continued to indulge in occasional chocolate treats can stop feeling guilty and now easily justify our cravings.

You may have already heard that chocolate contains beneficial flavonoids and antioxidents. Flavonoids are naturally-occurring compounds found in plant foods that are full of recognized health benefits. There are more than 4,000 flavonoid compounds, which are a subgroup of a large class called polyphenols. Phenols are believed to help reduce the risk of heart disease by helping prevent atherosclerosis. The flavanols in chocolate appear to help the body use nitric oxide, which is crucial for healthy blood flow and blood pressure, which means that chocolate might help reduce hypertension as well.

Red wine is know for its high phenol content, but an average bar of dark chocolate contains more phenols than 8 ounces of red wine. Scientists at Cornell University and Seoul National University examined the cancer-fighting antioxidant content of hot cocoa, red wine, and tea, and found that cocoa had nearly double the antioxidants of red wine and four to five times more than tea.

Holland's National Institute of Public Health and Environment found that dark chocolate contains 53.5 mg of catechins per 100 grams. (Catechins are the powerful antioxidants that fight against cancer and help prevent heart disease). By contrast, a cup of black tea contains only about 14 mg of catechins and green tea has about 30 mg of catechins.

A study at University of California Davis found that participants who ate chocolate showed a reduction in platelet activity. This means that chocolate has an anti-clotting, blood-thinning effect that can be compared to aspirin.

A Harvard University study of 8,000, with an average age of 65, revealed that those who consumed chocolate lived almost a year longer than those who did not. Those who ate one to three candy bars per month had a 36 percent lower risk of death (compared to the people who ate no candy), while those who ate three or more candy bars per week had a 16 percent lower risk.

A study of older men in The Netherlands, known for its chocolate, showed that those who ate the most chocolate, an equivalent of one-third of a chocolate bar every day, had lower blood pressure and a 50 percent lower risk of death. The researchers also noted the men eating the most cocoa products were not heavier or bigger eaters than the men who ate less cocoa.

And it's not just dark chocolate that is the only healthy type of chocolate. Most studies talk about the benefits of dark chocolate, but some of the most recent news about chocolate includes good news for milk chocolate lovers, who have been left out in the past.

The Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia did a study that shows that milk chocolate seems to boost brainpower. The groups in the test consumed, on different occasions, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, carob and nothing. Then they were tested for cognitive performance including memory, attention span, reaction time, and problem solving.

According to Dr. Bryan Raudenbush, "Composite scores for verbal and visual memory were significantly higher for milk chocolate than the other conditions." The study also found that consumption of milk and dark chocolate was associated with improved impulse control and reaction time. It seems that by consuming chocolate you get stimulating effects from substances found in chocolate, such as theobromine and phenylethylamine, which then lead to increased mental performance.

Chocolate really does make you feel good, too. It is known to stimulate the secretion of endorphins, producing a pleasurable sensation similar to the "runner's high" a jogger feels after running several miles. Chocolate also contains a neurotransmitter, serotonin that acts as an anti-depressant. Studies in England show that even the aroma of chocolate gives a bout of euphoria and will help lift the spirits.

And now people are looking at chocolate for skin care. According to Marlies Spinale, director of Tru Spa, "Like many other antioxidants, cocoa polyphenols are thought to offer the skin protection from free-radical damage caused by sun, pollution, stress, alcohol consumption and other factors. I believe that we will hear more about the benefits of chocolate in skin care."

Some people have been avoiding chocolate because one of the main ingredients of chocolate is cocoa butter. It was thought that it was an unhealthy fat, but actually cocoa butter is not unhealthy. It is made up of the beneficial fatty acids-- oleic acid (a heart-healthy monounsaturated fat also found in olive oil), stearic and palmitic acids. Stearic and palmitic acids are healthy forms of saturated fat. Plus chocolate contains vitamins A, B1, C, D, and E, as well as potassium, sodium, and iron.

So go ahead and indulge in a little chocolate, in moderation of course. I would recommend that you try to find organic chocolate, and stick with darker chocolate because it has more chocolate flavonoids and less sugar. (Sugar weakens the immune system; so don't consume sugar if you are ill.) And a little bit of milk chocolate is alright when you need an occasional milk chocolate brainpower boost, such as before a test. All you students take note!

Chocolate as a health food-- can life get any better?

• • • • •

Thousands of people are losing weight and getting healthier adding coconut oil to their diets. I am. There must be a large number of us, because there is a huge urban agriculture movement going on right now. There is a new interest in growing gardens and even raising chickens in urban backyards. Even people in condos and apartments are getting together to share and work on a garden on a nearby lot.

Some of the reasons for this move towards taking control of your own food supply by growing it at home are:

1. The inferior quality of mass grown commercialized grocery store produce. It may look good, but it is often tasteless and unappetizing because it was grown quickly in stripped soil with only a few "chemicals" to fertilize it, instead of traditional methods of natural mulching and crop rotation. Commercialized produce and eggs also have less nutritional content than home grown or organic foods grown in healthy high vitamin and mineral soil.

2. Some people do not like supporting the huge industries that are putting the farmers out of business, that treat animals so badly, and that are taking over with their genetically modified seeds.

3. Many people are concerned about our "toxin load" with all the pesticides we consume, and find the price of organic produce too costly to justify buying. When you grown your own food you know exact what was used on the plant and what soil it was grown in.

4. Many people object to the way food is treated "for our protection" such as radiation, long term storage, foods picked unripened, or foods brought in from foreign countries.

5. The more we hear about GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) the more we want to avoid them. Having weed killers and pesticides genetically placed in the seed, the plant and then our bodies is turning out to be a really bad idea.

6. Some people don't have easy access to farmers markets and local growers. (Where I live, in middle of the desert, we have very few local agricultural options to choose from.)

7. People are growing food for economic reasons. As people find themselves out of work and the economy getting harder, many people need the extra food a garden or a few hens bring.

8. It reminds us of simpler happier times, when our parents or grandparents baked their own bread and had gardens with a few hens in the yard.

9. It is part of the growing responsible "green" movement. Chickens or rabbits make manure. Manure fertilizes the garden. The garden feeds us and the animals.

If you are a country person residing in the suburbs or the city, you are not alone. Look for others and form support groups. Help change local laws to be more backyard agriculturally friendly. Get together to build a neighborhood garden and/or chicken coop. Even if you live in an apartment, you can try container gardening.

For more information check out some of the great books on the city agriculture movement like these below today!
